Jesus is Baptized
Matthew 3 13-17
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness." Then he consented. 16And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; 17and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
Remember your baptism? What does it mean?
You became one with God. A physical reminder and confession that you are part of the family of God.
Baptism is a new beginning and a new start. A change of life. A new creation!
You are now a Christian! When life gets rough you can remember your baptism. You can think back on that day and it will help you remember your change and your commitment. Your relationship with Jesus and your relationship with all other Christians. As brothers and sisters, as sons and daughters. You now don’t want to become a stumbling block to others, you now want to help and teach others by your actions, words and deeds.
God now adopts you into his family at baptism. Your prayer life will now take on a new meaning when you are part of Gods family. The Holy Spirit is with you when you accept Jesus into your life. The Holy Spirit will now help you in life to make better choices in everything you do. What a gift to have the trinity. Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. The Spirit does more now than you realize.
It is life changing! You are now called a friend and son or daughter of God!
Serving God though prayer, church and service will not be a burden when you are part of him. You want to please him and serve him because you are connected to him. You want to keep his commandments.
Read again what Jesus says in Mark chapter 12 vs 30 and 31. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’ There is no other greater commandment greater than these.
Now that you are following what he says, you don’t want to become worthless. You want to worship him. This is what God wants. He wants you to worship him. Remember he is God, The king of kings. The creator of life. The first and the last. Everything is created by him. All this becomes clearer when you are worshiping him.
This is how you get happiness and peace.
This is how you love your neighbor as yourself.
Take time today to remember your baptism and renew yourself!
